He “…saved Israel from bitter affliction, for there was no helper” 2 Kings 14:26-27 Many consider him the best king in the Northern Kingdom (territorial expansion, great wealth) Apparently there was a 22-year gap from his death to the next king 2 Kings 15:8

9 Death Of Uzziah Remember…he was struck with leprosy because of his pride & presumption 2 Chron 26:16-23 His son Jotham co-reigned while he lived in seclusion 2 Kings 15:5 After his death, he was not buried in the tombs of the kings 2 Chron 26:23

Prophesied to Judah during the days of 4 kings Isa 1:1 Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, & Hezekiah Actually started in Uzziah’s last year… approx. 707 B.C. Isa 6:1 Thus, Isaiah began his prophetic work some 15 years after Israel fell to Assyria Things aren’t good in Judah, Jerusalem 1:4-6, 21-23

God calls Isaiah Isa 6:1-13 The prophet is allowed to view the enthroned God who called him vv. 1-4 Despite the prophet’s unworthiness, God shows mercy & forgives him vv. 5-7 God then calls the prophet to the difficult task of preaching to rebellious Judah vv cp. Matt 13:10-15 For how long? Until destruction vv

When there is no respect for authority (law), chaos always results Judg 17:6 Prov 14: Jer 10: Lk 6:46 Even 200 years after Jeroboam’s death, his golden calves are continually mentioned POINT: our actions (good/bad) outlive us Heb 11:4 Rev 14:13

According to Jesus, we are blessed to live in the age where we have the best opportunity to avoid “dull ears, eyes, and hearts” Matt 13:16-17
