Pul, king of Assyria, subdued Israel & forced them to pay tribute…Menaham exacted the money by heavily taxing the wealthy 2 Kings 15:19-20

Remember…he was struck with leprosy because of his pride & presumption 2 Chron 26:16-23
His son Jotham co-reigned while he lived in seclusion 2 Kings 15:5
After his death, he was not buried in the tombs of the kings 2 Chron 26:23

Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, & Hezekiah
Actually started in Uzziah’s last year… approx. 707 B.C. Isa 6:1
Thus, Isaiah began his prophetic work some 15 years after Israel fell to Assyria
Things aren’t good in Judah, Jerusalem 1:4-6, 21-23

The prophet is allowed to view the enthroned God who called him vv. 1-4
Despite the prophet’s unworthiness, God shows mercy & forgives him vv. 5-7
God then calls the prophet to the difficult task of preaching to rebellious Judah vv cp. Matt 13:10-15
For how long? Until destruction vv
