At god’s command he married Gomer who was or became a prostitute. God uses Hosea’s wife and children to demonstrate His relationship with Israel. Hosea’s life served as a parable of God's faithfulness to an unfaithful Israel.

The message of the book can be summed up as God will come not only to judge his people, but also to bless and restore them.
