2. Zephaniah Served as prophet to Judah from 636-623 BC Setting:
Josiah is king from BC. GOOD king
Word of God was found in the House of God
Josiah becomes king at 8 years of age
2 Kings 23:25 says, “Before him there was no king like him who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might.”
This would have included David!
Josiah was killed by Pharaoh Neco at Megiddo
Josiah was the son of Manasseh: the most wicked king Judah ever had.

3. Zephaniah Prophesy came BEFORE Josiah’s purge Day of the Lord:
1:2 The Lord will remove ALL things from the face of the earth
1:12 Time of punishment for those stagnant in spirit
Stagnant: “qapha” – congealed, condense, to thicken
1:15 A day of wrath, trouble, distress, destruction and desolation
1:16 A time of war, trumpet and battle cry
1:18 It extends through the destruction of this heaven and earth (2 Pet. 3:10-12)

4. Zephaniah
3:7 God called Judah through Zephaniah to seek Him before they suffered His anger in the Day of the Lord
3:5 The unrighteous know no shame
3:8 Judgment of the nations (Joel 3:2)
3:9 All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved (Joel 2:32, Acts 2:21, Rev. 14:6-7)
3:20 FUTURE restoration of Israel: When the King of Israel will be in their midst. 1,000 year reign
Rev. 21 New heaven and New earth replace the totally destroyed ones

5. Ezekiel 30 Setting: Served as prophet to Judah from 593-559 BC
IN captivity with Judah in Babylon
Daniel is BC so they knew each other
Would Ezekiel have known about Daniel’s vision of the statue?
Day of the Lord:
30:2 It is near, it is a day of gloom for the nations
Chapter 30 is primarily against Egypt, but some of the prophecy is not yet fulfilled
30:10 Part was fulfilled when Nebuchadnezzar took them into captivity

6. Zechariah 14 Setting: Served as prophet to Judah from 520-489 BC
AFTER Nebuchadnezzar. During Medo-Persian captivity. AFTER Daniel and Ezekiel
Day of the Lord
14:3 Day of battle where the LORD fights
14:4 Jesus’ feet stand on the Mt. of Olives
14:5 Jesus comes and the saints with Him
14:6-7 No more night! Jesus IS the light (Rev )
14:8 Living waters flow

7. Zechariah 14 14:12 Flesh, eyes and tongue rot on non-worshippers
14:13 Great panic
14:18-19 No rain – plague on non-worshippers
14:21 Temple is purified
14:9, 16 & 17 King is used 3 times referring to Jesus as the ONLY King
14:16, 17 He will be worshipped in Jerusalem by those that survive: the remnant
Revelation 20 1,000 year reign

8. King Hezekiah – Zech. 14
In the days of Uzziah, king of Judah, two years before the earthquake. Zech. 14:5
The tradition of the Jews is that it happened just at the time when Uzziah presumptuously invaded the priest’s office and went in to burn incense and God inflicted him with leprosy 2 Chron. 26:16-23
Josephus says by it, half of a mountain was removed and carried to a plain four furlongs off (220 yards); and it spoiled the king’s gardens. Amos 3:15

9. Malachi Setting: Served as prophet to Judah from 435-415 BC
Same time as Nehemiah
Day of the Lord:
3:2 Who can endure it?
4:1 It IS coming and it burns like a furnace
4:1 Every evil doer will be set on fire
4:3 The righteous will trample down the wicked
4:5 God will send Elijah BEFORE the Great Day
4:5 It’s a dreadful, great and terrible day
Could Elijah be one of the 2 witnesses?

10. Conclusion The 6th seal is broken BEFORE the Day of the Lord
Elijah must come BEFORE the Day
Man of lawlessness come BEFORE
AT the 7th Trumpet
God’s wrath happens IN the Day of the Lord
Battle against Jerusalem, then judgment for nations
Lord’s coming (Rev. 20) is DURING the Day of the Lord
1,000 year reign of Jesus on earth is part of it
Lasts UNTIL the heavens and earth are destroyed in Revelation 20
