Aim: How did Geography shape the lives of the Native-American cultures?  Do now: How did Native-American tribes differ based on their geographic location?

1. How did the Native Americans come to North America?  Land bridge from Russia to Alaska

2. What were the significant geographical features of Native American culture groups?  Northwest – (Chinook) totem poles, fishing, farming  Southwest – (Navajo) desert, pueblos, farmers, adobe  Northeast – (Iroquois) farmers, hunters, woodlands, long houses  Plains – (Apache) hunted buffalo, roamed plains

3. What customs and beliefs were shared by Native-American culture groups?  Social structure : kinship – family  clan – groups of families, common ancestors  Religion: *power of spiritual forces – rituals  for all events  Preserving culture – oral history
