Global programme in 112 countries, reaching over 10 million teachers world wide In South Africa: … since 2005 … working in collaboration with partners and DoBE (National and Provincial) to assess needs and roll out localised programmes … including access to software and tools; teacher training on ICT integration (almost teachers trained to date); communities for best practice and sharing through the Innovative Teacher Forum and Partners in Learning Network; holistic approach to innovative schooling … and now focussing on support for pre-service teacher training Partners in Learning Access to technology and skills Transform education through 21 st century skills development Enable jobs and economic growth

Provide a set of tools for the needs and situation analysis of the state of ICT use in teaching, learning and administration in pre-service teacher training institutions By doing so, the institutions will be better positioned to develop a strategic plan (long term planning towards the organisation’s vision & mission) to build their capacity for ICT integration in education. 6 strategic dimensions: 1.Vision and Philosophy 2.Programme: Curriculum, Assessment & Practicum 3.Professional Learning of Deans and Teacher Educators 4.ICT Infrastructure, Resources and Support 5.Internal and External Communication and Partnership 6.Research & Evaluation Deans and Faculty

Full day hands on workshop for teacher students and faculty Pre-service students and faculty learn how to incorporate 21 st century skills, specifically communication, collaboration, critical thinking and technology literacy skills into high quality teaching and learning. Pre-service teachers will leave workshop with tools and skills they can use in teaching pracs. On-line follow-up module After the workshop, participants independently complete an interactive, on- line module reinforcing what they learned in the workshop. Participation in communities of learning Join an on-line community of innovative teachers eg Partners in learning Network, who share best practices and resources for using technology in the classroom to strengthen teaching and learning. Follow-up student projects Transfer what was learned in the workshop to R-12 setting. Key elements: Incorporation of modules into pre-service teacher training

This programme is being piloted across the world and in South Africa in 2010 A day seminar will be held for Deans of Schools of Education alongside the WW Innovative Education Forum in October 2010 to introduce the Teacher Education Institution (TEI) Toolkit From 2011, Microsoft and our partners will be supporting interested Universities/Teacher Training institutions in running workshops on: using the TEI toolkit, evaluating current status and planning implementation for moving along the continuum modelling use of the pre-service teacher training courseware opportunity to adopt, customise and collaborate to contribute content to the pre-service TT courseware To summarise….
