ZakatZakat ZakatZakat Zakat is about looking after the less fortunate, Each Muslim gives up part of his money each year to help the poor. The word zakat means to purify or cleanse. As each gives up part of their money they become cleaned from selfishness and greed. This money is provided to give education, keep or build new mosques and to help the needy.

Hajj Each Muslim has a requirement to try and make a pilgrimage to ka’aba In Makkah at least once in their lifetime. Thousands of pilgrims crowd around the Ka’aba as the Hajj begins. They circle the Ka’aba seven times and then pray at the station of Ibrahim. Ibrahim is said to have prayed there when he had finished building the Ka’aba. They visit the Ka’aba at the end of the Hajj. The Kiswa is the cloth that covers the Ka’aba it is black with verses from the Qur’an sewn into it with real gold and silver! A new Kiswa is put on the Ka’aba every year during the Hajj festival.

Saum This is all about Ramadam, which is where people don’t eat between sunrise and sunset... WE COULDN’T DO THAT!!! Ramadam is in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is hugely special to all Muslims because this is when Muhammad started receiving messages from god. Ramadam starts on a new moon until the next new moon (30 days). The fast is to remind them What it is like to be poor and hungry.
