83 rd Legislative Session Bills to Watch and Potential Impacts (2 of 8)  HB 690 (Lewis) - Relating to reimbursing public institutions of higher education for tuition and fee exemptions for certain military personnel and their dependents.  HB 1004 (Gonzalez)- Relating to an electronic system adopted and maintained by public institutions of higher education to employ a person to track the academic progress of military veterans or their family members receiving student financial assistance.  HB 66 (Lucio III) - Relating to the establishment of a pilot program under which high school students may accrue prepaid tuition units at public institutions of higher education by completing certain community service activities.  HB 1033 (Alvarado)- Relating to eligibility for tuition and fee exemptions at public institutions of higher education for certain military personnel, veterans, and dependents residing in this state. Amend eligibility exemption requirements for residency status to include being a resident of this state for at least 20 years.  HB 451 (Dukes)- Relating to restrictions on access to certain personal online accounts through electronic communication devices by employers or public or private institutions of higher education; establishing an unlawful employment practice. Student would no longer qualify for resident status based on having graduated from a public or private high school or received the equivalent of a high school diploma.  SB 437 (Birdwell)- Relating to the determination of resident status of students by public institutions of higher education. An institution cannot reclassify a student's resident status if student has completed at least 30 semester credit hours.  HB 539 (Alonzo, Roberto) - Relating to repealing certain limitations on the automatic admission of undergraduate students to general academic teaching institutions.  HB 639 (Patrick) - Relating to the eligibility requirements for admission of undergraduate students to a general academic teaching institution.
