A LLOCATIONS We will determine the operating fund and work study student employee allocations for each department for the academic year based on budgetary constraints. Freshman student employees cannot work more than ten hours per week. However, upperclassman are eligible to work twelve hours per week.

W ORK S TUDY Students are granted work study in their financial aid package. Supervisors must monitor their hours to ensure that the students do not earn more than they were awarded. Students who had work study last year are not guaranteed to be awarded it again this year. These students may be placed on a work study wait list by request, but we can not make any promises. Deadline for work study placement is September 4 th Planning of hours is recommended due to the increase in minimum wage and no change in the work study awards.

P APERWORK AND A UTHORIZATION V OUCHER You must not allow your students to work until you have received a signed copy of the Work Authorization Voucher. It is important that you fill in ALL information on the voucher very Carefully. Accurate grant codes Exact starting and ending dates

E VALUATIONS We have provided you with a sample evaluation for your use. Supervisors should evaluate student employees in order to improve productivity and limit the number of grievances. Students may also want to complete supervisor- and self- evaluations in order to promote better communication.

G RIEVANCES The student employment office must be notified if student employee grievances occur. These grievances must be handled carefully and confidentially. Our policy requires supervisors to follow a three stage process. First stage- Oral Warning Second stage- Written Warning We are happy to provide supervisors with templates. Third stage- Referral to Student Employment

W EBSITE Pending Approval- jobs must be approved by our office before being listed online. Listed Jobs- these jobs will appear on the website and will collect applications. Students can be hired while your job is in this mode. Jobs may be stored in four different modes on

A DDITIONAL M ODES Review Mode- these jobs are not available to students online, however, you may hire students while the job is in this mode. Storage Mode- if you place your job in this mode the applications you have collected will be permanently deleted. In order to hire students you need to move this job to a different mode.

E DIT J OBS Before posting or hiring for a position, make sure that the number of available openings is not zero. Check the start and end dates to ensure that they are for the right term. Be sure that the pay rate matches the job responsibilities

G REETINGS AND R EJECTIONS You can view applications by following the link on the control panel. Please make sure to send out greetings and rejections to all potential applicants. You can do this while viewing the applications.

M INIMUM W AGE Minimum wage in Connecticut is currently $8.00 an hour. Minimum wage is set to increase on January 1, 2010 to $8.25 an hour. We will automatically increase any employees making minimum wage to the new pay rate effective the first pay period of the year. Students making more than minimum wage will not receive a pay increase.

S TUDENT P AYROLL What you should know. Who does what. Things that make us happy. Things that make us sad. How you can help us. How can we assist you better?
