tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page Introduction Introduction: “The LXI Compliance Specifications define the general rules and agreements under which equipment manufacturers shall apply and be granted permission to label their equipment with the LXI Logo, use the LXI logo in marketing literature, and advertise their equipment as LXI compliant.”

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page General Intend Ensure “Interoperability” Three methods to seek approval for a LXI device –Test interop against other LXI devices in a controlled environment using approved test procedures –Technical Justification in case of a direct legacy from an existing LXI device which has already been approved –Certification from independent Test Lab approved by the LXI Consortium Issue: Test procedures

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page General Compliance Process Manufacturer satisfies the compliance and interopt testing procedures Manufacturer applies to the Consortium for approval to label their device as LXI compliant by submitting the required documentation (and license fee) Consortium reviews application Approved products are added to the official compliant product list maintained by the LXI consortium

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page Compliance Grievance Process Users that experience difficulties they believe results from non-compliance may notify the LXI Consortium of the issue Consortium will notify manufacturer and request that the issue be resolved The manufacturer may resolve the issue by: –Proving the issue is not due to non-compliance of the device –Correcting the non-compliance –Discontinue marking and selling the device as LXI compliant

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page Specific Compliance Requirements Interoperability Testing: –Rule - Compliance Demonstration at a PlugFest Permission: Compliance Demonstration at an Interop Test arranged by a member of the Consortium –Rule - Number and Class of Approved Devices Required for Compliance Testing –Rule - Use of Approved Interoperability Test Procedures –Rule - Witness of the Compliance Tests by a Designated Representative –Rule - Test Documentation and Request for Certification

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page Specific Compliance Requirements Technical Justification Procedure: –Compliance certification can be requested based on written Technical Justification that a new LXI Device has a direct legacy from and traceability to an existing LXI Device that has already received approval –Rule - Technical Justification Procedure: Document including the name of the Manufacturer, Device Type and Serial Number, date of the tests, the version of the LXI Specification which was used for the tests of the original devices from which inheritance is claimed, the version of the Interoperability Test procedures used to test the original devices, the specifications of the other LXI Devices used in the tests, and the inheritance of the Device or LXI Interface of the Device for which the certification is being requested

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page Specific Compliance Requirements Certification by an Independent Laboratory: –Certification can be requested based on the results of compliance testing carried out by an Independent Laboratory approved by the Consortium. –Rule – Test Documentation and Request for Compliance: Document defining the specifications of the Device for which certification is being requested, including the name of the Manufacturer, Device Type and Serial Number, date of the tests, the version of the LXI Specification which was used for the tests, the version of the Interoperability Test procedures used, the specifications of the other LXI Devices used in the tests, the test results, and the name of the Independent Laboratory which carried out the tests

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page LXI Device and Documentation Requirements LXI Device Labeling –Front Panel LXI Label Permission: Electronic Front Panel Label –MAC Addresses: Label on back of the device (Already rule in 7.2) –Recommendation: Device Specifications Label

tm Aug LXI Consortium – Conformance WG Page 12 Conformance WG Roadmap To work with BoD to review Conformance Process To work with the individual WG to define test procedure specifications for their domains in the “LXI Compliance Test Procedures” To work with David Owen to review compliance text in Section 1. To resolve compliance issues for Hybrid Systems To review License Agreement Roadmap: To be completed for V1.1 (End 2005)
