Why Do People Work? People work for many reasons, but, basically they work to bring personal meaning and satisfaction to themselves as well as benefits to society. Of course people work for survival People work to define themselves People work to have a sense of security People work for self-respect or to feel competent or powerful People work to conquer time People work to measure self-worth

Why Do People Work? A reporter was interviewing a woman who worked for a famous actress. “What do you think about your employer’s enormous success?” he asked as she transferred a load of the celebrity’s clothes from washer to dryer. “I’m really pleased that she found something to fall back on,” came the reply. “Because she doesn’t know beans about doing laundry.”

Resumes – Why they Are Required Before You Apply For Jobs They are used by employers to screen job applicants They are the tool to get your that job interview

Resumes – What Is Required On A Resume? 1.Clear, concise, accurate information: name, mailing address, phone number (with area code!), address 2.Your objective - what position or goal you hope to accomplish with this job 3.Your experience(s) 4.Your education 5.Your particular skills

But What About Students? For your resumes, say for summer jobs, will need a different appeal since you don’t have very much employment experience Let’s look at an example

How Do I Create A Resume For Myself? Write it by yourself but get someone with experience to look it over Be brief, and stick to the point Be positive Be specific –say exactly what you mean Use action words Use short sentences Don’t say anything negative Perfection is expected, excellence will be tolerated. No errors allowed!
