Heating and cooling costs are cheaper per year due to insulation factor of straw. Straw maintains a constant interior temperature. HUD's Office of Native American Programs 31

Coeur D’Alene Tribal Housing Authority Gathering Place Performance Advantages:  Reduce energy costs by 50-75%, for the life of the home due to insulation factor of straw.  Fire Resistance- Compressed bales prohibit the circulation of oxygen. Improved resistance as compared to similar wood structures.  Improved termite/rodent resistance- Straw is inorganic.  Improved noise insulation. 33
