Libraries, Archives and Information Services Vocational Qualifications April 2011

National Vocational Qualifications Started late 1980’s, wide range of subjects Workplace competence based Five levels, level 1 most basic, level 5 most advanced Transferable awards

Information and Library Services Began 1995 Three levels only - 2, 3, 4 Oxford, Cambridge, RSA (OCR) OCR last registration July 2001, last completion July 2004 Health Libraries Network, City and Guilds as awarding body 2003 NVQs recognised in job profiles, salaries

City and Guilds New scheme started early 2003, last enrolment December 2010 Two levels only - 2 and 3 EDI scheme approved August 2010

Southern Counties Libraries Vocational Qualification Network Established October 2010 New name better reflects multi-sector candidates and geography Approved as Centre by Education Development International (EDI) December 2010 First candidates started April 2011

Training for Assessors and Verifiers Assessors / verifiers learn on the job Training courses run by local providers e.g. Colleges Assessor / verifier portfolios to demonstrate competence A1, A2, V1 ( previously D32, D33, D34) Decisions need to be countersigned by qualified staff until training completed Awards take three to six months to complete Assessor / team meetings
