Student Presentation How will RPA affect you?

Your future starts here…

Over the next few years, you have some big decisions to make… …YOU get to choose the subjects and qualifications you’ll study in Years 9, 10 and 11.

What you choose will not only affect how you spend your time in education… …it may also affect the job or college course that you do in the future. Apprenticeships A Levels Vocational Training Employment Volunteering

Staying in learning… From 2013, young people will participate in learning for longer- you will get to choose: full-time education, maybe at school or college work-based learning, such as an apprenticeship part-time education or training, if you are employed, self-employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week Why?

Because By … there will be 3 million fewer lower skilled jobs in the UK economy.... there will be a 50% increase in the number of jobs which need high level skills.

This means… You will need to work towards gaining further qualifications and/or training until your 18 th birthday to get the career you want.

Your Options at 16: 2012 Take further GCSEs, AS or A Levels. Take a Vocational Programme or Apprenticeship Take a Flexible Foundation Programme (School/College) Take on Part Time or Voluntary Work Take a job without training Your Options at 16: 2013 and Beyond YES - with training NO - any job must have training There really is very little change though, most people continue training for much longer – even for life.

Don’t put off making your choices until Year 11, you can start now. They’re big decisions but don’t panic! You’re not on your own…

 Parents, carers, family and friends  Tutors/ teachers  Support staff  Careers Advisers …there are people who can help you decide what’s best for you and your future.

Spread the Word… …Learning is Changing Everyone should have a copy of these leaflets, make sure you take them home and show your parents.
