ICT uptake in construction sector  A highly fragmented ICT usage  A multitude of standards, technical specifications, labels, and certification marks as well as diversity in local, regional and national regulations.  A low adoption and integration of relevant ICT in most business processes, especially by SMEs. These business processes are often characterised by communication and knowledge sharing based on personal or telephone contact.  Many small-sized companies which are typically either organisers of projects and project flows or suppliers to larger project-managing companies, with different ICT requirements.

The Scoreboard consists of 16 component indicators, grouped in four categories. The underlying survey data have been weighted by employment, thus emphasizing the activity of larger firms. The size of the bubbles is indicative for the relative size of a sector (by employment). Data for hospitals are not 100% comparable, as for some business indicators proxies had to be used. eProcurement and eMarketing / Sales ICT infrastructure & internal processes e-Business Scoreboard 2006 (for sectors, EU-10) Construction Tourism Telecom Food Shipbuilding CE Hospitals Paper ICT M. Footwear Sectoral differences in e-Business adoption (by e-Business Watch 2006)

Main barriers in ICT uptake and e-Business adoption  Existing e-Business solutions are too general and too complicated  Existing solutions are not adjusted to small and medium companies requirements  Commercial solutions are too expensive for small and medium companies  Open sources solutions still lack the level of maturity

e-NVISION e-Business Platform

Aims and adventages of e-NVISION e-Business Platform e-NVISION platform: Enables electronic communication between all actors of construction process on each step of project development Enables unification and rationalisation of cooperation between big sized companies and their partners and subcontractors from SMEs Enables SMEs to model and adopt in their organisation particular business scenarios requested by their customers and suppliers; Enables SMEs to integrate of all their enterprise applications following a service-oriented architecture; Incorporation of legal, economical and social services offered by external organizations, with the overall goal of facilitating the participation of SMEs

e-Buisness scenarios e-Tendering e-Procurement e-Site e-Quality

Business Benefits for Construction SMEs  e-Tendering scenario tries to enhance SMEs participation in calls for tenders (e.g. as a group of SMEs or as a Virtual Enterprise) on equal footing compared to bigger tenderers  e-Site scenario will improve the companies’ coordination in the construction time, reporting in an automatic way any change or incident at the construction site to the interested partners so that they can react as soon as possible  e-Procurement scenario looks for potential providers both internally and externally thanks to an effective and rational supplier selection model that allows discovering, evaluating and finally selecting the list of providers  e-Quality system is centred in two main issues: the documents and their management, and organising all the information and data to perform the tasks according to the work specification and in compliance with the standards

Expected Results SME-oriented e-Business Model e-Business architecture Semantic Tools A set of semantic integration components A set of business contextual services Open source e-Business platform
