Funding – What’s changed? The Government is significantly reducing the grant we receive and encouraging us not to increase Council Tax. We need to make savings of £7.1 million over the next five years, that’s 18.2% of our current revenue budget. This is in addition to the £1.3 million of savings already agreed for 2015/15. Road Safety Road safety was adopted in East Sussex as a priority for the Safer East Sussex Team (SEST) and as a priority for the Police and Crime Commissioner across Sussex (in respect of a reduction of Killed and Seriously Injured, and the reduction of antisocial driving). ESFRS will continue to take a leading role in coordinating road safety across East Sussex. Road Safety ESFRS personnel (operational and non-operational) will continue to be engaged in predominantly educational road safety activities. Engagement is within schools and colleges, or in partnership with other agencies who are undertaking educational or enforcement activities on the roadside or elsewhere. Intervention and Incident Reduction We will continue to work with partners and the community to reduce the overall number and types of fires and other incidents we attend. We will continue to work closely with Family Key Workers to offer and provide timely interventions to families to achieve safer and sustainable communities. Promotion of Fire Sprinklers More can be done to protect East Sussex businesses and homes against the devastating effects of fire. We will continue to lobby and influence partners and the community and promote fire sprinklers to become a more commonplace safety feature in homes and businesses. A greater uptake of fire sprinklers could make the County more resilient and ensure needless fires do not hinder economic recovery.
