There are an estimated 5,000 youth on the streets in King County every year. Up to 70% of homeless youth in Seattle are originally from this geographical area. Family crisis is the most prevalent reason youth and young adults identify for becoming homeless. Who are homeless youth?

Up to 35% experience sexual abuse in their homes Up to 60% experience physical abuse in their homes Up to 60% of homeless youth have been in foster care at some point in their life. Up to 40% are LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, or Questioning). Over 50% have disabling conditions (e.g. depression, autism, mental illness) Who are homeless youth? Before ending up on the streets…

Most importantly… homeless and street-involved youth are remarkable young people with bright futures who deserve to have their needs met!

TEEN FEED’S APPROACH YOUTH IN NEED #1 OUTREACH TO YOUTH #2 NUTRITIOUS MEALS #3 BASIC NEEDS ITEMS #4 CONNECTIONS #5 SERVICES & RESOURCES

OUTREACH TO YOUTH  OutReach & InReach connect with young people who wouldn’t ordinarily access traditional support programs.  STOP OutReach connects with young people 3x per week. STOP meets with youth “where they are at” in public spaces – library, parks, and on the streets.  STOP made 2,800+ positive contacts with youth in need in  InReach drop-in at TF office every Wednesday.. #1

 University District – 7 days a week  Auburn – every Wednesday & Friday  Rainier Beach – every Thursday #2 WARM, NUTRITIOUS MEALS 7:00-8:00pm, 365 days a year Serves ages “Low-barrier” Entry Teen Feed Meal Program

Teen Feed works with 750+ volunteers to provide home-cooked meals for youth every evening. Meal teams of 5-15 individuals prepared and served 23,000+ meals to 900 individual youth. Meal teams teach young people how to care for themselves.

Thanks to generous community donations, Teen Feed distributes the following daily essentials to youth in need: TOILETRIES toothpaste, toothbrushes, sunscreen mouthwash, floss, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, razors, and soap. CLOTHING jackets, shirts, pants, underwear bras, socks, hats, shoes and hoodies. OTHER SUPPLIES sleeping bags, rain ponchos, refillable water bottles, snacks, first aid kits, sewing kits, cold medicine, and batteries. #3 BASIC NEEDS ITEMS

Volunteers commit to 6 months of service on the same day each week for consistency and relationship-building: Advocate Volunteers (18+) Advocates sit with youth during the meal, offering positive interactions to help young people develop trusted connections and expand their community of support. Ally Volunteers (ages 13-18) Allies set-up the basic needs tables and help to distribute basic needs items for youth. They also provide valuable peer modeling for young people. n.snm.,ng.,mngf.,nm.gn #4 CONNECTIONS Allie and Molly Nicoletta are a mother/daughter advocate and ally team!

Advocate Volunteers help connect young people with Teen Feed support coordination and healthcare access programs: #5 SERVICES & RESOURCES Work with youth to identify (3) goals to accomplish. Goals may include: obtaining ID, securing a job, healthcare enrollment, housing. Assist them with forms, paperwork, appointment setting Help youth address barriers to making positive and healthy choices Offer support and guidance as they transition off the streets
