What we know about UK TNE provision Since academic year , it has been mandatory for UK institutions to report to HESA data on students studying the whole of their UK qualification outside of the UK. Data on the following four fields are collected: institution country of activity level of provision type of activity We now have 3 year’s worth of data with which some indication of trends can be gained, although any such analysis must be regarded with a little caution as institutions appear to have taken some time to adjust to reporting this activity outside of the UK.

Top level summary the number of students studying their entire UK qualification outside of the UK has increased 23% in the last year from 408,685 in to 503,795 in UK qualifications are now delivered in over 200 countries and territories outside of the UK There are now more than 70 countries where at least as many students study a UK HE qualification in that country compared to the number of students travelling to the UK for their education There are 14 countries where the difference between students studying a UK qualification in country and those studying in the UK is greater than 5,000.
