Leaves, Don't Just “Leave” Them Alone Susan Yeske Special Needs Instructor Lake Park Audubon Schools 2010

Little about what I do I currently teach children grades k-2 with special education needs. I serve children with autism, developmental delay, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities and developmental cognitive disabilities.

Lesson This lesson was designed to be used with kindergarten students with developmental delays as well as to include a student who is not verbal due to a developmental/cognitive disability. I also used open office to create this presentation.

This is the “kid friendly” page that allows kids to chose their favorite PBS Characters which link to different kid activities such as interactive web pages, places to print off coloring pages and watch videos.

Every PBS website has a place for teachers and parents to find information and activities This is the kid friendly Sid the Science Kid web page. Below is where teacher and parents can enter for the parent and teacher pages.

This is the parents and teacher page that has more ideas then you can imagine

By clicking on the “activities” tab you are given the show information as well as links to “lesson plans”. This is a quick informational page that tells you episode number, name, etc

Here is a lesson that was developed for the clip that you will be watching in a few moments

Click on “Resources” and then “Videos” will bring you to a page to select either the clip of the video or a song that goes with the topic

This was the page that I first found when I was looking for leaves on Sid the Science Kid web site. This is what you first see And if you were to scroll down you could find the Backyard cycle.

Tar Hill Reader is a free collection of accessible books written by students. Each book can be speech enabled and accessed using multiple interfaces. I am using a simple USB interface and single switch to move from page to page like a student would who has difficulty using a mouse. Students can also be authors of their own book and upload them directly to the site.
