School Hours at BGHS Excel Period (zero period) 7:30 am to 8:20 am 1 st – 6 th periods (regular school day) 8:30 am to 3:05 pm

Words you need to know… Credit---Official certification that a student has completed a course. At BGHS, we have whole (1) credit courses and half (1/2) credit courses. Semester---One of the two divisions of an academic year. 1 st semester runs from the start of school to winter break. 2 nd semester runs from when we return from winter break (January) to then end of the school year. Transcript---A student’s academic record. Excel Period---Also known as zero period. Time allowed for an extra class at the beginning of the day,7:30-8:20 am.

Math Information Beginning with the class of 2012, Math WILL be taken each year of high school. All students WILL be required to take FOUR years of Math. This can include, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Accelerated Algebra I, Geometry, Accelerated Geometry, Geometry Pre-AP, Algebra II, Accelerated Algebra II, Algebra II Pre-AP, Algebra III, Pre-Calculus, Pre- Calculus Pre-AP, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and Math 116.

Diploma Choices Merit Diploma 22 credits minimum required Comprehensive Diploma 24 credits minimum required Commonwealth Diploma Issued by Kentucky Department of Education.

COMMONWEALTH DIPLOMA PROGRAM Successful completion of all minimum requirements of the pre- college curriculum. Successful completion (i.e., receiving a “C”) of at least four (4) courses as described in the AP Program Course. English (1 course) Science or Math (1 course selected from biology, chemistry, physics or calculus) Foreign Language (1 course selected from French, German, Latin or Spanish) One additional AP course (selected from English, Science, Foreign Language, History, Computer Science, Political Science, Music, or Art). Completion of AP examinations in 3 of the 4 required AP courses as stipulated by the Kentucky Department of Education. Students receiving a minimum composite score of 8 on the three required exams will be reimbursed for those three exams.

Grade Point Average Class Rank A temporary GPA is figured at the end of each year and a final one is done during the senior year. Rank in class is determined by the numerical grade point average. The final averages of all courses are counted in figuring the numerical GPA. The student receives a decimal GPA based on a 4.0 scale with the following values assigned A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0

Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) Awarded to graduating seniors who will attend a Kentucky College, university or technical school.
