TASK 1 - KEYWORDS Put the keywords into order in groups on your tables – they will form a group

TASK 2 - KEYWORDS Copy the key word definitions for the following into your notebooks: Reliable Valid Independent variable Dependent variable Control variable Anomalous WHAT IS A HYPOTHESIS?

Hypothesis = an idea (which you can test in an experiment) The more hours you spend watching t.v, the less homework you will do. The more fizzy drinks you drink, the shorter your concentration span is. The higher height a ball is dropped from, the higher the ball will bounce.

TASK 3 - VARIABLES In your groups on tables come up with the title of an experiment. Do not copy from another group as they all need to be different! E.g. An investigation to find out whether height affects the speed at which a cupcake holder falls.

TASK 6 – PLANNING Title: Investigation to show how slope angle affects the speed of a toy car Include: Title (as above) Hypothesis (what do you think will happen?) Equipment (What do you need – amounts/sizes?) Method (step by step) Risk assessment (what are the hazards?) Variables

Hypothesis What do you think? Must be testable… The steeper the angle of the slope, the faster the car will go. The small the angle of the slope, the slower the car will go.

Equipment Amounts, sizes Small toy car x 1 30cm x 20cm large piece of wood to create slope x 1 Blocks x 5 (to create angle) Stop watch x 1 Protractor x 1 Measuring tape x 1

Method Step by step what will you do…must be repeatable 1.Set up the slope using the wood and blocks 2.Measure the angle of the slope and record 3.Hold the toy car at the top of the slope 4.Let go of the car and start the stop watch at the same time 5.As soon as the car reaches the bottom of the slope, stop the stop watch and record the time 6.Add another block to increase the angle of the slope 7.Record the angle 8.Repeat the experiment for each angle 5 times 9.Record the speed for each using the equation distance/time 10.Find the average for each angle
