1 SPEED OF THE BUBBLE EXPERIMENT (Date) Page 19 of You INB Purpose: Practice setting up an experiment and graphing data Speed= distance/time (s=d/t) Slope= rise/run (rise is the vertical measurement & run is the horizontal measurement) Materials:  Red tube, green tube & blue tube  Lab Partner  Meter Stick  Stopwatch

2 LAB CONT. Procedure:  Choose a partner(s) & select one color tube to use  Find out how long it takes the bubble to rise from the bottom to the top, when held vertically.  Find the distance the bubble travels in various lengths of time. Follow these steps: 1.Choose a time 2.Time should be at least four seconds but shorter than the amount of time it takes the bubble to reach the top 3.Hold the tube not quite horizontal, so that the bubble is at one end 4.Partner watches the timer/clock. When your partner says, “Start!” quickly turn the tube upright 5.Move finger along tube, keep it next to the bottom of the bubble 6.When your partner says “Stop!” Stop moving your finger! 7.Record distance & time for each color tube & plot the points on the graph. RED=Circle o, GREEN=Square □ & BLUE=Triangle ∆ 8.Repeat steps, using different lengths of time (use a wide variety, long & short) 9.Draw “Best-Fit” line to represent the pattern of the data.

3 LAB CONT. **** Pencil,Colored Pencil & A Ruler!! Set-Up Page 6 of Your INB As Follows:  Title the page: Data Collection for Speed of The Bubble Lab  Cut out the three data tables & Graph Paper on the handout. Glue the three data tables across the top of page 6.  Glue on your graph paper close to your data tables & label axis y-Distance (cm) & x-Time (sec).  Number from 1-20 on X & by 5’s-60 on Y  Trim and Tape: Questions 1-13 to the bottom of the page.
