A Review

What is an adjective? An adjective describes a noun or pronoun. It usually comes before the noun or pronoun.

Adjective Examples (In Bold) yellow sun furry monkey sixteen candles Caroline's book

The Adjective Questions Knowing these questions will help you know for certain whether any word is acting as an adjective. Every adjective answers at least one of these adjective questions. 1. Which one? (yellow, the, that) 2. What kind? (furry, plastic, special) 3. How many? (sixteen, several, many) 4. Whose? (Caroline's, his, its, John's)

Articles Articles are special kinds of adjectives. They are actually the most common type of adjective. Good news! There are only three articles in the English language. They are the, a, and an.

Definite vs. Indefinite Articles The article the is called a definite article. This is because it points out a definite, or specific person, place, or thing. Take, "Read the book." I am not referring to any old book, but to a specific book.

Definite vs. Indefinite Articles The articles a and an are called indefinite articles. This is because they do not point out specific people, places, or things. Try, "Read a book." You could read any book that you wanted to read.

Let’s Give It a Try! Take out a sheet of half paper. I’m going to show you a picture. I want you to write down an adjective to describe the subject (noun) within the picture. Be sure to number them! Ready? Let’s start!

#1 The ____ Michael Jordan.

#2 The __________ puppy.

#3 The _____ stealth fighter.

#4 The _____ Joker.

#5 The __________ Bill Gates.

#6 The _______ President Lincoln.

#7 The ______ unicorn.

#8 The _________ football player.

#9. The __________ babies.

#10. The ____ pie.

Let’s Share! Let’s go through each slide again, and you can share what adjective you used.

Your Challenge … On the same sheet of paper, I now would like you to write a complete sentence using the adjective and noun from each number. Be sure to include a verb! For example: The high-flying Michael Jordan is the best man to ever play basketball. Raise your hand when you’re finished and I’ll collect your papers.
