CIVIC DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Objectives 1. Identify the 5 duties expected of US citizens. 2. Identify 7 responsibilities of citizens that contribute to the common good. Daily Vocab  Duty  Responsibility  Petition  Tolerance  Draft

 These are the liberties and freedoms given to all citizen.  Few rights, if any are considered absolute though.  Citizen’s rights and freedoms in the US are guaranteed by the Constitution.  In return for these rights, citizens owe allegiance to the government.

 Amendments that protect these freedoms are: a) Bill of Rights ( the first 10 amendments) b) 14 th Amendment  The Constitution also protects the equality of citizens through majority rule.

1. Read in the textbook pages Get a bag of duties and responsibilities from the teacher. 3. Using the knowledge from your reading, decide whether each item is a duty or a responsibility and write it on your chart. 4. Make sure you match the right item with the correct picture as well!!

These are your civic responsibilities that you should do to help your community. These help the community and the government. 1. Register and vote 2. Hold elective office 3. Communicate with government officials 4. Serve in voluntary positions
