4 Naturalization: the process of becoming a citizen Naturalization Ceremony

5  Be 18 years old  Live in the U.S. for at least five years  Demonstrate continuous permanent residence  Demonstrate good moral character  Be able to read, write, speak English  Demonstrate knowledge of government & civics  Take citizenship oath

6  Freedom of speech  Right to vote  Freedom of religion  Right to a fair trial  Right to be protected while travelling in other countries

7  Obey the law  Pay taxes  Go to school  Serve on a jury or as a witness  Register for military service Duty: something you are required to do by law

8  Vote  Hold office  Get a job  Serve the community  Protect the common good

9 Common Good: the well-being of all members of society
