Do Now for 3/6/13 Take out C43 analysis HW: Expanded answer for number 6 is due Monday Test on C41 through 44 on Tuesday

C43 and 44 Check 43 Begin C44 Willow Grove Water Quality Report Use the KWL Chart to complete the procedure and answer the questions. Use the rubric to re-write #6. #6 will be collected Monday. Key points and vocabulary from 42,43,44 Final copies of labs C42 and 43

C42 Water Purification - Vocabulary 1. Coagulate: When chemicals are used to attract contaminants in water into large clumps. These clumps then settle to the bottom of the water tank. 2. Filtration: The process of removing suspended particles of solid from a liquid, usually by passing the liquid through a material that allows the liquid to move through, but traps the solid particles.

C43 Vocabulary 1. Flocculate: To add chemicals into water to mix with and pull together the contaminants into large clumps. 2. Flocculation: A process of removing contaminants from water by mixing in chemicals that pull together the contaminants into large clumps. 3. Sediment: The clumps formed by flocculation that sink to the bottom of the water. 4. Sedimentation: The process of letting the clumps formed by flocculation sink to the bottom of the water.

C44 Vocabulary 1. Pollute: To make impure.

UV Lights to kill bacteria

C42 and C43 - Key Points 1. Water may contain chemical or biological contaminants. (42 and 43 ) 2. Water pollutants, like other substances, have characteristic properties and can be separated from water based on these properties. (42, 43, 44) 3. Natural environments may contain substances that are harmful to human beings. Maintaining environmental health involves establishing or monitoring quality standards related to use of soil, water, and air. (42, 43,44)

Key Points 1. There are risks associated with chemical hazards, such as water pollution. (43,44) 2. Technology influences society through its products and processes. For example, water purification technology has improved people’s health and longevity. (43)

Review for test on 41 through 44 Review vocabulary Review key points Complete final copies of C42 and C43 to be checked after the test. NEAT ORGANIZED – PROPER ORDER COMPLETE – ALL PARTS
