EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW Guitar Lessons

Intro In order to play guitar you need to do a couple things: Commitment: You have to stick with it! Practice: Do this to get used to playing. It will improve your skills greatly. Patience: Learning takes time. If you’re patient enough, you will be able to play like a pro in no time!

Tuning Tuning is the most important part in learning about guitar. In order to tune your guitar, you will need to turn the tuner heads to tighten or loosen the strings. There are multiple types of tuning but for now we will stick to Standard Tuning. Standard Tuning: EADGBE This tuning will start from the thickest string, E, following the next, A, and so on.

Picking In order to make a sound, you need to pluck the stings. You can use your fingers to do this. Each finger is assigned to a certain string to make it easier than just using one finger. You can also use a pick. You hold a pick between your thumb and index finger and strum along the strings.

Strings It is important to become familiar with the strings of a guitar. You should get used to knowing where the strings are and what sound they make. You have to be cautious that the strings are fragile and don't need to be strummed or plucked so hard. If a string pops, it will require you to purchase an entire new set, unless you can find a store that sells individual strings.

Chords Chords are important when playing guitar. There are 7 major chords: A, B, C, D, E, F, G These are the base of all the chords, but they all have their own variations. There are majors, minors, 7s, 9s, sus4s, diminished, etc.

Guitar Type When selecting a guitar, it is important to take into consideration what type of music you will be playing. Each guitar is unique and is usually make for a certain type of music style. Whether you choose an acoustic or an electric, it's always important to try it out. Comfort plays an important role when choosing the right guitar.

Getting Familiar It is important to get familiar with your instrument. Get to know what the different strings feel like and what sound they make when you hold them down. Get to know the number of frets there is and where they are on the instrument. It would help to memorize the name of each individual strings so that you won't have too much of a hard time reading tabs.

Tabs Tabs are a way of reading music without actually having to read the music. Tabs give you the string that you are to play and on that string is the number of the fret you are to place your finger down on. Here is what tabs looks like:

Putting It Together After a few minutes of analyzing your instrument and getting accustomed to it, you can put it all together and begin to play. It will be slow and time consuming but it will all be worth it in the end. Caution: You will get blisters! The friction between the steel strings and your fingers will hurt, but eventually they will harden up and the pain will go away!
