Review - Background Hong Kong was returned to China after more than 150 years as a colony of Britain. This country is a fascinating interweave of just about every type of lifestyle. Your experience in Hong Kong will be one of the most efficient ways to gain a world perspective and cultural dynamic in one city.

History British Colonial Era 29 AUG 1842 was the date that Hong Kong formally became part of the United Kingdom under the Treaty of Nanking Before the treaty there was unsettling dispute between China and England due to Opium wars

History On December , Hong Kong was invaded by the Japanese as British and Canadian troops surrendered to an overwhelming Japanese force. After Britain regained control of the colony after the war, the population sank from 1.6 million in 1941 to 600,000 in 1945.

History Cold War Era Hong Kong’s population recovered quickly as waves of migrants from the Chinese Civil war began to enter. During the 1950s, Hong Kong saw rapid growth in industry as it grew overwhelmingly with textile exports and expanding manufacture industries.

Governance Back to China’s authority in 1997 Sino-British Joint Declaration  (one country, two systems) “High Degree of autonomy as a special administrative region in all areas except defense and foreign affairs”
