A collection of Minecraft themed literacy activities

My Minecraft Story Pick AT LEAST 6 screenshots on the next few pages to be the illustrations of your own Minecraft story. You will then need to stick the pictures in order and write a paragraph to go along with each screenshot, linking all the images together into one narrative. You may add your own drawings to the screenshots(characters/vehicles/other items relevant to your story). DO NOT discard unused images- you will be needing them!

My Minecraft Story: Character Profiles You will need to decide on TWO main characters for your own Minecraft story and describe them IN DETAIL here. Write over the page if you need more room. Character 1 Name:_________________________________ Physical Attributes (what he/she LOOKS like- hair/eye colour, height, size, age etc): ________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ Character/Personality (brave/funny/angry/likes/dislikes/hobbies etc): _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ Interesting Information____________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ Relationship to character 2: _______________________________________________________ Character 2 Name:_________________________________ Physical Attributes (what he/she LOOKS like- hair/eye colour, height, size, age etc): ________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ Character/Personality (brave/funny/angry/likes/dislikes/hobbies etc): ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ Interesting Information____________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ Relationship to character 2: _________________________________________________________

My Minecraft Story: Planning Use this page to work out a rough plan for your story ORIENTATION: Who are your characters? _____________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ When is the story taking place (time of day/time in history/present/future)? __________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ Where is the story set (use screenshots to guide you)?_____________ ___________________________________________________________________ COMPLICATION: What event or problem occurs and how does it affect the characters? ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION: How is the problem resolved? __________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________

My Minecraft Story Now, plan each page of your Minecraft story book. Describe each screenshot in the order they will go in your story. Explain what each screenshot will be illustrating in you story. What will your characters be doing/wearing/saying? Use planning page to guide you. My first screenshot shows ___________________________________________________________ ________________________________________ In this screenshot my character/s are (explain what they are doing) ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ My second screenshot shows ________________________________________________________ My character/s are here because _____________________________________________________ My character/s are now (doing what?) _________ ________________________________________ Screenshot three: ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ _______________________________________ _

________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ____ ________________________________ ____________________________________ ________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ____________________________________ ____ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________

My Minecraft Story: putting your book together Now that you have a plan for your story, you can start to design and create your Minecraft book. You will need several sheets of plain A4 paper. Stick one screenshot per page. You can design your book any way you like: draw a border, place the screenshot pictures anywhere you like, use interesting writing and/or put your writing in a text box. It’s up to you! Make sure to write your story in lead pencil first and draw yourself some lines to guide you. And have fun!

List the steps for playing Minecraft in Creative Mode. Remember to: Be very precise-include ALL the steps. Number each step. 1. Switch on your computer and open up the Minecraft program. 2.___________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________

How descriptive can you be? Pick one of the screenshots you DID NOT use for your Minecraft story. Stick it in the space provided on this page and then write a description of exactly what you see in the picture as though you were describing it to someone who can not see. Remember to think about shapes, colours, position of objects, size, tone etc. _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ Your picture goes here Describe your picture here

Below is a sample of a Minecraft blog that was written with many grammatical mistakes. Find the mistakes in this blog post and correct them. Prologue: There was a explorer named Steve. He explored all of Minecraftia, which was made of bloks. He had a boat which he explored with, until one day the baot hit rough water. it went down! Chapter 1: "Hmmm.... where am I?", said Steve (opening his eyes). My adventure kit, I'll be needing that, said Steve, grabbing his kit which had 2 stone picks, 4 toches, 5 bread loaves, 4 blocks of wood, 3 sticks, 2 aples and a chest. "Somehow, I think I'm going to need more than this to survive here", said Steve looking at the forest that connected to the ocean. Man, am I hungry, said Steve, grabbing some bread out of his adventure kit. "Mmmmm good bread"!! Look a village maybe, the people who live there will let me stay and trade with them, said Steve, looking at the village. Chapter 2: Hi villagers, can I stay here and trade with you guys, asked Steve to the villagers after he told how he got on the island. Yes, you may live here for a while, just until you can get a house built, said the villagers. Thank you, said Steve. I will get right to work on that house. Not now though, it is almost nighttime and the monsters will be coming out, said the lead villager. What monsters, asked Steve. Just come inside said the lead villager. Thank you for letting me stay, said Steve. The plesure is ours, said the lead villagers. What are monsters, asked Steve? You will see them soon enough, said the lead villager. Now everyone eat dinner and get some sleep, said the lead villager. Adapted from : Story-of-Steve
