Cereal Box Book Report Due: Tuesday, September 26, 2017

2 Materials Large cereal box (family size or larger)
Scissors, glue, color paper, markers, color pencils, etc. Your imagination! Note: For this project, you may use butcher paper from the school to cover your box if you need it. Project must be typed (see me if you are unable to type project due to limited access to a computer). Pictures can be hand drawn or printed.

3 Front of Box Remember, the front of the cereal box is what sells it. Did the book keep you turning page after page? Share the excitement! Invent a name for the cereal that is related to the book and sounds like a cereal. Do not use the exact title of the book. Be creative! Illustrate the front of the box with something that is original and represents the book. Include an “Author’s Spotlight” with the name and picture of the author and three interesting facts about the author.

4 Left Side of Box--Summary
Write at least a one paragraph summary that describes the main problem and the solution of the story. Remember to follow the story’s plot for a well written summary. Include an illustration that symbolizes an important event.

5 Top of Box--Review Title Author Number of pages
Number of stars you would give this book if you were a book critic (maximum is 5) Include a justification for your rating.

6 Right Side of the Box--Setting
Describe where and when the story takes place. Include an illustration. You may want to research the book’s time period (Wolf Hollow), or refer to the book to find descriptions of the setting.

7 Bottom of the Box--Theme
What is the theme of the novel? Write an explanation that shows that you understood the deeper meaning of the book.

8 Back of Box Design the back and divide it into 8 sections. Be creative! Select three characters from the book and explain why they are important to the story. Think about the role they play in the story. Make sure you include a picture of each character. Pictures can be hand drawn or printed from the internet. Make connections : text to text, text to self, and text to world. What does the novel or characters remind you of? Illustrate your two favorite scenes and include a caption.

9 Prize Cereal boxes often include a prize.
The prize must be something the protagonist could have used in the book or something that reminds you of that character. You can even include a picture of the prize on the front of your box to let the reader know what is inside the box.

10 Extra Credit- Cereal Box Commercial
Students will share their project by presenting a 1-2 minute commercial for their cereal. Students should practice their commercials at home. The goal is to persuade other students to want to buy your cereal (read the book). Use the following guidelines for commercial: • Share exciting elements from the book – the problem, important scenes, interesting characters, etc. • Be energetic! Try to convince your audience to buy your cereal. • Cereal has nutritional value and is “good for the body.” Tell your classmates why this book would be good for them! • (Optional) Be a character from the book to help you “sell” your product.

12 Extra Credit Commercial
Commercial clearly shows why students should “buy the cereal” (read the book). Student speaks clearly and is loud enough for everyone in the audience to hear. The commercial is interesting and catches everyone’s attention. Student shares exciting parts of book. Includes why the book is “good for you.” Student is prepared and commercial shows effort. (15 points added to lowest daily grade)
