In what ways does the Quimby family seem like a real-life family? Do you think the Quimby family has a good reason to be so crabby? Why or why not? 7 The Big Picture Make a poster to tell what Ramona Quimby, Age 8 is all about. Use a sheet of poster board. Draw a large box in the center. Draw a picture in this box showing the theme, or main ida, of Ramona Quimby, Age 8. Divide the area around the center box into four equal spaces. Draw a picture of the four most important events in these boxes. Write a caption under each picture.

10 What if… When the old man saluted Ramona and asked her a question, Ramona was stunned. Then the hostess seated the Quimbys right away, so Ramona didn’t have time to answer. What if the hostess hadn’t seated them right away? What do you think Ramona would have done or said? How do you think the man would have responded? Write a new ending for this meeting.

12 Picture a Mood The mood of a story is the general feeling you get from reading it. Authors use words, details, and descriptive language to create a mood. In Ramona Quimby, Age 8, the mood changes as you read. Create three drawings that show the mood at three different points in the story. Use your imagination when you draw.. Think about how different colors can show different feelings Your drawings do not have to have shapes or forms, they can just be colors.

13 Generally Speaking Poll your classmates to make generalizations. First, look through a book and pick a topic. For example, do older brothers usually help their younger sisters? Interview four classmates. Complete a generalizations chart. Write down their ansers to the questions in your chars. Write a paragraph that tells what the results of your poll are. Make a generalization about your topic.

Fill in a character web. Write in your web words and phrases that describe the old man. Add circles to the web as needed. List specific things to do and places to go. Remember that the Quimby’s don’t have much money. Look again at page 314 to see some ideas Ramona has.
