Frankie’s Ultimate Cell Challenge A6-A21

Hello Everyone! I was told that you did very well on your cell parts quiz, so I’m back to help you all study for your cell test! Just like last time each time you answer you will wager some of your points depending on how sure you are of your answer. Never wager all of your points unless you are POSITIVE about an answer. If you are right, you win the points you wagered. If you are wrong, you must subtract that number from your points.

Okay, while I get my book open I’ll ask you an easy one. Question 1: Where in the cell are the chromosomes found? ** Write your answer, then write the number of points you are willing to wager on this question

Answer #1: Nucleus *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance (100pts) *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Oops! Sorry I got distracted! I’m can’t concentrate when I’m hungry! If I was only a plant I wouldn’t need to waste time eating! Question 2: What part makes it possible for plants to make their own food?

Answer #2: Chloroplasts *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Ha! I used to be such a baby! Question 3: What is the name of the process my cells went through in order for me to grow up?

Answer #3: Mitosis *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Okay, I found the page I was looking for. This part confuses me. Question 4: What is the name of the type of cell division that makes reproductive cells?

Answer #4: Meiosis *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Did you guys really get that right? Wow! Mrs. Bhattacharyya was right, you are smart! Try this one Question 5: How many daughter cells are made in the meiosis process?

Answer #5: four *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

The shelter people told Mrs. Bhattacharyya that my birth mom looked something like this. I got some of my good looks from her. Question 6: Where did I get the rest of my DNA?

Answer #6: My dad! *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Back to the cell parts section. Think back a few weeks for these next few questions Question 7: What part of the cell provides energy?

Answer #7: mitochondria *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

My friend Rascal wanted to ask you a question, but he’s hiding under the table. See him? I’ll ask it for him. Question 8: What are the storage spaces in of the cell called?

Answer #8: vacuoles *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Alright! I’m awake and I’ve got one more question about cell parts.. Question 9 What is the stiff outer layer of plant cells called?

Answer #9: cell walls *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Hey, you remember Leo right? We were just talking about that fact that our cells contain 78 chromosomes. Question 10 How many chromosomes do human body cells contain?

Answer #10: forty six *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Question 11 How many chromosomes are there in a dog’s reproductive cell? I hope you were paying attention! Leo has a difficult one for you!

Answer #11: 39 *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Question 12 Here’s a two part question. Is this a mitosis or meiosis diagram? How many chromosomes will each of the daughter cells have in this example? You must get both answers right!

Answer #12: Meiosis, 2 chromosomes each *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Hmmm… Let me concentrate and give you another one. Question 13 If a cell that has 30 chromosomes goes through mitosis, how many chromosomes will each of the new cells have?

Answer #13: 30 *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Hello again I’ve got one more for you guys! Question 14 What are the two purposes for mitosis? You must have both right.

Answer #14: growth and cell replacement *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

I’m starting to get tired of typing. We’re almost done! Question 15 What was the name of the person who discovered cells? First and last name please.

Sorry to do this to you. This is a difficult one. Question 17 What are the three parts of the cell theory? You must have all three right.

Question 18 Suppose an organism has 8 chromosomes in each of its body cells. How many chromosomes are there in one of it’s reproductive cells formed following meiosis?

Answer #18: 4 *If you were correct, add the number of points you wagered to your balance *If you were incorrect, subtract the number of points you wagered from your balance

Here’s a picture of me as a puppy. Mrs. Bhattacharyya made me go to an elf party! Last Question…. In order for me to grow over the past three years my cells had to go through mitosis. Draw a mitosis diagram on the bottom of your answer sheet for an organism with 8 chromosomes.

Answer #19

How did you do? Here are some tips for studying for the cell test: 1.Go over the study guide 2.Review your notes 3.Re-read the chapters 4.Practice drawing mitosis and meiosis diagrams

I’m pooped! ZZZZZ… Happy Studying! Good Luck!
