This is my dog Buddy. He is a rescued dog. He is one of my reasons for wanting to be a veterinarian. Veterinarians diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to all sorts of animals such as: dogs, cats, horses, cattle, sheep and other farm animals.

PROS AND CONS TO BEING A VETERINARIAN PROS Leader of the team Set your own hours You get to work on interesting cases Most importantly, you get to assist in saving the lives of many animals. School Requirements Veterinarians are required to complete a 4-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program in addition to 4 years of undergraduate school. These professionals are also required to obtain licensure to practice in the profession. Specialists require additional training and board certification.

Job Outlook Employment of veterinarians is expected to grow 12 percent from 2012 to 2018, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Then 30 percent from 2018 to The number of new graduates from veterinary schools has increased to roughly 3,000 a year. There are 22 specialist and 41 distinct specialist categories in the veterinary field that you can go into.

Do Veterinarians use Math? Yes! Math is actually a very critical tool in the veterinarian field. Math is used to properly calculate billing charges, medication doses, used in surgical procedures for making incisions and giving anesthesia and also for dispensing amounts of food.

My Dream Field: Zoological Veterinarian After doing all this research, I have decided that the veterinary field I would most be interested in pursuing would be a Zoologist Veterinarian. I think it would be a very rewarding profession. Not to mention, I love exotic animals as well as domestic animals.
