 Vedas: the most ancient Hindu scriptures, written in early Sanskrit and containing hymns, philosophy, and guidance on ritual for the priests of Vedic religion.  Four chief collections  Rig Veda- collections of inspired songs or hymns  Sama Veda- ritualistic collections of melodies  Yajur Veda- made to meet the demands of a ceremonial religion  Atharva Veda-consist of spell and charm prevalent at its time

 In Hinduism, Brahman is "the unchanging reality amidst and beyond the world“, which cannot be exactly identified.  It is referred to as the supreme self or your self-consciousness.

 The great creator deity of the Vedic period of ancient India.  Known as King of Kings  they personify a creative force that evolves things from itself

 Born in Nepal in the 6th century B.C., Siddhartha was a spiritual leader and teacher whose life serves as the foundation of the Buddhist religion.  He was son was a king  He was kept away from the outside world  His mother died at the age of 7  He was married at the age of 16  In his late 20’s he went on a tour of outside of his castle

 Encounter with a decaying corpse.  Left his kingdom the next day, at age of 29  Practiced a new way of life with a group of 5 ascetics.  Fasting nearly to death and refusing water  Bowl of rice offered by a young girl  Discovered a path called “middle way”  Meditation under “Bodhi Tree”  Became enlightened and Siddhartha Gautama became Buddha, he who is awake

 Buddha was hesitant to teach but King of Gods, Brahma convinced him to teach  He called his teaching Dharma  Preached for 80 years and then he died  He told his disciples to follow no leader  He named four noble truths to enlightenment.

 A spiritual leader whose teachers are rejected but those powers of self experience and self wisdom are praised by Siddhartha.
