Ottawa

The flag of Canada is a red maple leaf on the central white field, which is framed at the sides with vertical red stripes.

The flag symbolizes the two oceans washing the shores of Canada - Pacific and Atlantic - and the country between them. Maple Leaf emphasizes the unity of the nation.

The capital of Canada is Ottawa.

Today, Ottawa is the fourth largest city with a population of 900,000 people.

In the south the city is crossed by the Rideau Canal.

The first inhabitants Ottawa were the Indians

The name of Ottawa in Indian means "exchange."

The first European settler was Filimon Wright

In the 1820s there was a settlement founded by loggers Baytown that existed under that name until 1854.

In the years after the War of 1812 many people from different countries began to immigrate to the city

December 31, Queen Victoria had to choose the capital for Canadian provinces and she chose Ottawa.

In the centre of the city there are the parliamentary buildings with the central Peace tower

In summer every day at 10 on Parliament Square there is a solemn changing of the guard

Ottawa is very interesting in spring when the tulip festival is held. During the Second World War, Ottawa has provided shelter the Dutch royal family. And now each year the royal family sends one thousand tulips in gratitude

Ottawa’s landmark is also a Supreme Court building.

Ottawa is proud of the National Art Gallery, which contains a rich collection of paintings and sculptures.
