1 Population: 32,8 million Capital city: Ottawa - Canada is an independent member of the British Commonwealth - national currency is Canadian dollar - there are 2 official languages - English and French - other big cities are Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Quebec, Edmonton, Winnipeg

2 - Canada is divided into 10 provinces and 3 territories

3 - the original inhabitants of Canada were the Inuits (or Eskimos) and Indians ESKIMOS INDIANS

4 - The FLAG consists of two vertical bands of red with a white square between them and a red maple leaf centered in the white square - The EMBLEM is called “Coat of arms of Canada” - The National ANTHEM is called “O Canada” and the MOTTO is “From Sea to Sea” - The national ANIMAL is beaver

5 - Canada occupies the northern part of North America (except Alaska) and many islands - Canada is the second largest country in the world - Canada also has the world's longest coastline - 3 oceans border Canada: The Pacific Ocean (in the west), the Atlantic Ocean (east) and the Arctic Ocean (north). - It neighbours with the USA – this border is the longest border in the word - The longest river is the Mackenzie (which flows from the Rocky Mountains to the Arctic Ocean), other big rivers are the Yukon, the Fraser, the Columbia, the St. Lawrence River…

6 - There are about 30 national parks in Canada. Jasper National Park is the largest. Banff National Park is the oldest park in the Rockies. Thousands of tourists visit Canada’s national parks all the year round - The Great Lake Region (in the south-east) is the largest area of fresh water in the world. There are famous Niagara Falls between Lake Erie and Ontario. Other beautiful and big lakes can be found in Canada e.g. Great Bear Lake, Great Slave Lake, Lake Winnipeg…

7 - The Niagara Falls, located on the Niagara River draining Lake Erie into Lake Ontario are the highest flow rate of any waterfalls in the world and has a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m) - Niagara Falls forms the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York - They are located between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York

8 - Canada also has high mountain ranges, such as the Rocky Mountains and the Mackenzie Mountains. The highest mountain is Mt. Logan in the Alaska region

9 - Ottawa is the capital of Canada, the second largest city in the Province of Ontario, and the fourth largest city in the country. - it is located on the south bank of the Ottawa River in the eastern portion of Southern Ontario - The population is about 1,5 million people
