Agency: A business or organization with power and conditions to assist businesses related to tourism Chamber of Commerce: An association of businesses in a city, region, or state devoted in part to promoting the business interests of its members. Chamber of Commerce is often active in promoting tourism to their areas.

Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB): A nonprofit organization that represents attractions, restaurants, lodging, and transportation and operates at the county and civic level with the mission to encourage groups to hold meetings, conventions, and trade shows in its city. A CVB is often funded by transient occupancy tax.

Marketing strategies used by tourism industry agencies Promotion takes place at local, regional, state, national, and international levels. Agencies produce and distribute literature on destinations and/or their services. They promote the entire area. Agencies join appropriate associations/organizations that support their agency. Agencies subscribe to trade publications associated with their agency. They advertise and/or write articles for these publications. Agencies sponsor or participate in trade shows/expositions. Agencies distribute specialty advertising media such as pens with business name and information, magnets, rulers, letter openers, note pads, key rings, etc. free to the customer.
