The Male Reproductive Testis

What Are They? Two glands that are suspended within a sac that hang outside of the body called the scrotum. The are responsible for secreting testosterone and sperm

Regions of the Testis

Homeostasis The testis remain outside the body to retain the perfect temperature for sperm production, which is slightly lower than the body temperature. Raise and Lower Reflex Reaction

Hormones FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) The development, growth, pubertal maturation, and reproductive processes of the body LH (luteinizing hormone) Stimulates Leydig cell production of testosterone

Sperm Production FSH acts directly on the Seminiferous tubule to produce sperm Immature sperm travels from the seminiferous tubules to the epididymis where is stays until sexual arousal. http://health.howstuffworks.com/sexual-health/male-reproductive-system/adam-200126.htm

Ailments Cryptorchidism (or undescended testes) Testicular cancer Testicular torsion Orchitis Hypogonadism (low testosterone) Epididymitis Testicular trauma

Testicular Cancer The cancer is divided into two types: seminoma (30%) and nonseminoma (70%). Testicular cancer is almost always treatable if detected in the early stages, even if it has already started to spread.

Symptoms of Cancer The symptoms of testicular cancer include:   a painless lump in the testicle dull ache or pain in the groin or abdomen enlargement of a testicle pain, discomfort, or a feeling of "heaviness" in the scrotum pain or discomfort in the testicle
