6 Male Functions Testes: 1.Make sperm 50,000 per minute 2. Produce testosterone Main sex hormone of males Scrotum: Skin-covered sac that hangs from the body Lower temp. for sperm production

7 Male Functions Epididymis: Coiled tube where sperm mature and are stored 2-10 days to mature Vas Deferens: Tubes the sperm pass through to get fluids added (semen)

10 Preventing problems Jock Itch: Dry thoroughly after showering Avoid sharing towels with others Hernias: Avoid strenuous lifting Infertility: Avoid injuries to genitals Avoid drugs and alcohol

12 Early Detection is KEY Testicular Cancer: Most common in ages 15-35 1. Undescended testes as child 2. Genetic link Look for unusual lumps, swelling, feeling of heaviness, pain, and discomfort in scrotum or abdomen

13 Early Detection is KEY Prostate Cancer: Primarily in older men Testosterone can cause the prostate to enlarge Delaying treatment can be DEADLY
