Amplitude is a measure of what in a wave? Amplitude measures the amount of energy in a wave.

What determines the color of a light wave? Frequency and wavelength

What is the space called between compressions in a wave? Rarefaction

Describe reflection. Give an example of reflection. Reflection is when a wave bounces off a surface. Use any example from our labs in class.

Describe refraction. Give an example of refraction. Refraction is when a wave bends when it pass through a different medium. The wave travels at different speeds through the different mediums. Use any example from our labs in class.

Describe diffraction. Give an example of diffraction. Diffraction is when a wave bends around a barrier. Use any example from our labs in class.

Describe and give an example of a mechanical wave. A mechanical wave is one that needs a medium through which to travel. Sound, earthquake

Describe and give an example of a transverse wave. A transverse wave travels in up and down motions. It can be mechanical or electromagnetic. Light, water

By what is the pitch of a sound measured? Frequency

Describe why hearing an explosion in space during a movie is not realistic. Since space has no air, sound cannot travel.

If space is a vacuum, how does light travel to Earth from the Sun? Since light is a type of electromagnetic wave, it does not require a medium through which to travel.

How is the amplitude different in dim light and bright light? The bright light has more energy which means it has a higher amplitude. Dim light has less energy because it has a lower amplitude.

How is the wavelength different in a sound of 100 Hz compared to 500 Hz? The wave of 100 Hz will have a lower pitch. A lower pitch (100 Hz) will have the longer wavelength.
