Presentation transcript:

Section Engineers Meeting Lake Cumberland March 2010

 Agencies have until January 2012 to establish and implement a method to maintain minimum levels of sign retroreflectivity  Compliance date for regulatory, warning and ground mounted guide signs is January 2015  Compliance date for overhead guide signs is January 2018

 Accurate, reliable and cost effective method to evaluate traffic signs  Objective is to minimize costs, reduce liability, improve safety and comply with MUTCD standards

 Develop of statewide sign management program that will meet FHWA requirements and serve as a model for a more extensive KYTC asset management program

 Identify worn out signs  Minimize requirements for field inspections  Plan and budget resources properly  Useable as liability defense  Compliment existing inventory sets  Anticipate future needs

 Create inventory of existing signs  Collect inventory on newly installed signs  Determine ultimate retroreflectivity management method that will be used once program fully developed  Determine intermediate retroreflectivity management method that may be needed temporarily in order to meet MUTCD deadlines

 Sign Click  Photolog Van and Database  OMS  Mobile OMS  Field Data Collection Devices  Area Development Districts  Barcoding or RFID

 Steering Committee – Jon Wilcoxson  Existing Sign Inventory – Chad Shive  New Sign Installation – Tracy Nowaczyk  Technology – Chad Shive  OMS – Aaron Collins  Retroreflectivity – Tracy Nowaczyk
