Essential Question Unit Questions Learning Objectives State Standards Assessment Websites

Essential Question How might the solar system have formed?

Unit Questions What are the bodies that make up the solar system? What are the planets and stars made of? Describe the orbit of the planets around the Sun. And of the Moon around the Earth.

Learning Objectives The students will be able to name the planets, describe the planets and stars compositions, and be familiar with the orbits around the Sun, and the Moon around the Earth.

State Standards § Earth and space. The student knows there are recognizable patterns in the natural world among objects in the sky. The student is expected to: – (B) Describe and illustrate the Sun as a star composed of gases that provides light and heat energy for the water cycle. – (C) Construct models that demonstrate the relationship of the Sun, Earth, and Moon including orbits and positions; and – (D) Identify the planets in the Earth’s solar system and their position in relation to the Sun.
