+ The Internet is a Great Tool to Learn and Explore The Internet is really useful and you can do many fun things while browsing the Internet, such as: Finding information on questions you may have and learning new and exciting things Connecting with friends and family members all over the world Playing games and watching sports games 2

+ Internet Safety 3 But remember, it’s always important to stay safe when using the Internet, since dangerous situations can sometimes occur. You can be safe on the Internet by following these 5 steps:

+ for Safe 4 Stay safe by not sharing personal information with people, especially strangers you are chatting with online. Personal information includes: -Your name -Your -Your home address -The name of your school -Your telephone number -Photos of yourself

+ for Meeting 5 Meeting someone you have only been communicating with over the internet can be dangerous. Only meet someone you have communicated with online with the permission of your parents or teacher and only if your parent or teacher can be present during the meeting.

+ for Accepting 6 Accepting s, text, IM chats, attachments or photos from people you don’t know or trust can lead to problems. You should not open these files. These files can contain viruses or mean messages - always ask an adult for help.

+ for Reliable 7 Not all the information you find on the internet is true. People online may be lying about who they are and some websites may contain false information. Always ask an adult for help if any information makes you feel uncomfortable. It’s always great to have discussions about information you find on internet websites with your friends and teachers.

+ for Tell 8 Always tell your parents, your teachers or a trusted adult if anything you come across online makes you feel uncomfortable or worried. Also watch out for your friends and tell a trusted adult when you feel that a friend is feeling uncomfortable or being bullied.

+ Question #1 You are talking to someone in a chat room and the person asks you what your full name is and where you live. What do you do? 1. You give the information to the person. 2. You tell them that you do not want to share this information. 3. You give them your friend’s name and home address. 12

+ Correct Answer to Question #1 You tell them that you do not want to share this information. If they keep insisting and requesting the information after you have said “No”, then you should leave the conversation and tell an adult about what happened. 13

+ Question #2 You meet someone online that lives nearby and the person asks you to meet him or her in person. What do you do? 1. You tell your parents or your teachers that you want to meet this person and politely ask them to come with you. 2. You take your best friend with you to meet the person. 3. You go and meet the person by yourself. 14

+ Correct Answer to Question #2 If you consider meeting up in person with someone you met online, tell a parent or teacher and ask them to come with you to the meeting. Never go and meet someone you have met online by yourself. 15

+ Question #3 You get an from someone you don’t know. What do you do? 1. You forward it to all of your friends. 2. You open it and reply. 3. You tell your parents or a trusted adult and delete the e- mail. 16

+ Correct Answer to Question #3 You should always tell your parents if you received an or message from a person you do not know. You should not open the message by yourself. If your parents are not close by, you can always delete the message without opening it. 17

+ Question #4 You find a website that makes you feel uncomfortable. What do you do? 1. You tell your best friend about it. 2. You close the website and tell a trusted adult about what you saw. 3. You stay on the website. 18

+ Correct Answer #4 You should close the website immediately and you should always tell your parent or a trusted adult about anything you find online that makes you feel uncomfortable. 19

+ Question #5 During an online conversation, the other person says something mean to you that really hurts your feelings. What do you do? 1. Say something mean back. 2. Say that you have to go and leave the conversation. Then talk to a trusted adult about what happened. 3. Tell your friends about what happened. 20

+ Correct Answer to Question #5 The best thing to do is to say that you have to go and leave the conversation. Talking about what happened with a trusted adult will help in making you feel better. 21
