The Life of A Firefighter “When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work.” ~Edward F. Croker By: Keegan VanWinkle English 12B

Qualifications In the fire service there are many standards and quotas a recruit has to meet before actually becoming a firefighter. Academies Trainings Personal Hygiene/Good Public Appearance Courage Responsibility

Qualifications Cont. To be a firefighter nowadays there is a lot expected out of you as in schooling and training. Firefighters never stop training because as soon as you think you know it all is the day you should quit because you will get yourself or someone else hurt. Firefighters go through extensive academies and classes to learn both medical and physical procedures to access and stabilize whatever situation we might come across. Firefighters are usually hands on kind of people with a broad span of knowledge so they can always try to stay one step ahead to keep themselves and their “brothers” safe.

“It’s a Brotherhood” Firefighters are people who treat each other with respect because other firefighters are your brothers and sisters. Your dept is your family, you have to have great trust in each other and have each others back no matter what. Because no matter what its two in two out.

Public Relations Another big part of the fire service is your public relations. Public relations are how you’re seen from the public eye, and what the public and taxpayers views on you are. Without good public relations, there will be less trust and respect from the departments peers.

A Day In The Fire Service Fire fighters work on a pretty strict schedule. Depending on the departments SOPs (standards of procedures) there schedules might look something like this. Wake up and do their daily truck checks and maintenance along with cleaning the restrooms and cleaning the station or even doing reports while running any rescue or fire calls in between all this of course.

Expectations In the fire service there is a lot that people expect out of you, people are going to have emergencies no matter when or where and as firefighters they know we will be there no matter what. Because as fire fighters we have the Desire to Serve, Courage to Act, and The Ability to Perform. 24/7/365
