Mountain Climbing These are the types of things that mountain climbers, such as Greg Mortenson, have to be aware of before trekking up any mountains like the Karakoram mountain range. Jessica Robertson

Remember this… Don’t underestimate the mountain or elements – Weather changes, lack of oxygen, unstable terrain Physical fitness – Endurance and stamina – Intense cardio vascular workout and lower body strength – Don’t wait till the last minute!

It’s Real! Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) – Chances can be reduced by being physically fit – Slowly acclimatizing Preventative Measures to Take 1.Keep hydrated! Double or triple your intake of water before departure. 2.Take 1 or 2 aspirins a day two weeks prior to departure with your doctor’s approval. (thins your blood and help adjusts to altitude) 3.Acetazolamide (Diamox) is prescribed anti- altitude sickness medication that’s taken before departing. There are side effects, so it’s your choice to take this, but consult your doctor.
