WHAT IS HEALTH SCREENING? WHAT DO YOU THINK? Health screen includes collecting data from an individual about their current physical activity levels, dietary habits and lifestyle. Questionnaires are commonly used to collect this data as well as a client consultation. Questionnaire results can help recognise the people who are at risk of heart disease and ighlight what needs to change. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPX4hISeSJI

What should health screening consist of? In your groups discuss between you what you think a health screening should contain and reasons why Feedback to the groups

Questions relating to: Physical activity levels Physical activity history Injuries past or present Personal training goals Alcohol consumption Smoking Stress levels Dietary habits

Client consultation It is important to make your clients feel at ease! Build a rapport with your clients and make sure your body language is welcoming and your approachable Listen to your clients this is as just as important as asking the questions Clearly communicate your findings and what the plan is going forward

Client confidentiality During the health screening the client will provide personal information in regards to their health and fitness It is vital that this information stays between you and the client Data will also be collected from monitoring tests

To ensure client confidentiality Any records you have about the client must only be viewed by the fitness instructor and your supervisor and your clients should be made aware of this Records must be kept securely and never be left in a public place and electronic records should be password protected The contens of the health screening should not be discussed in public or with your family or friends

Informed consent An informed consent form should be completed before any health monitoring tests have been conducted this form is completed by the client This document shows that you have delivered all the information to the client about the tests The individual to be tested will complete an informed consent form to evidence that they are aware of all procedures and that they fully consent to participate in the tests

Informed consent cont The form should be signed and dated by the client Their parets of guardian if they are under 18 years of age The tester (you) A witness which will usually be your tutor or assessor

Coronary heart disease factors Five major factors are: High blood pressure on at least two separate occasions Systolic blood pressure is higher than 160mmHg Diastolic blood pressure is higher than 100mmHg Cholesterol is higher than 6.20mmol/l Cigerette smoking Diabetes Family history in siblings of coronary heart disease in age prior to 55 years

Medical referral The results from the questionaires and the health monitoring tests can identify risk factors and some individuals may need medical referral to their GP Factors for medical referral may include: Heart conditions Chest pain Breathlessness High blood pressure Pregnancy Joint or bone problems
