UNESCO in Morocco The Draa Valley – A World Heritage Site

What is UNESCO doing in Morocco? Morocco has been working with UNESCO to protect their World Heritage Sites. One of these world heritage sites is Draa Valley. They are working to create more tourism by studying the music and dances and attracting tourists with shows. This will bring money to the struggling inhabitants of the Draa Valley. The proposal was passed in 2004 and it stated that UNESCO would document many aspects of the culture in Draa Valley in order to develop a way for tourists to know about it and come see it. They have already gotten a collection of the songs and instruments used in the music and dances. They can use that information to show tourists about the unique culture that is found in Draa Valley. UNESCO has also written a book in French all about the culture. They still have yet to examine the financial contribution of artistic activity to meeting family needs, so information on just how much a performer is making to go towards their family is still unknown. So far, UNESCO has done a great job of figuring out more about the unique culture that is found in Draa Valley and using what they learn to bring money in using tourism.
