GREEN STREET GREEN MATHS CURRICULUM EVENING PART 2: TIMES TABLES

‘By age 9, pupils should know their times tables up to 12x12. This is in line with expectations in the high-performing jurisdiction of Massachusetts. Currently pupils only need to know up to 10x10 by the end of primary school.’

Introduction of a new school wide tables system to complement learning in the classroom

How will it work? Key resources: A times table book Instructions Times table card set Timescale: Rolled out to all classes by half term

Times Table Cards – The rules! Depends on the class* You will get your new tables on Monday* Your test will be on Friday* Spend about 5 minutes a day on them practising – get someone to help you. The first week you will start with your times table x a number e.g. 2x 1 =, 2 x 2 =, 2 x 3 = If you get 12 out of 12 correct for 2 weeks you move on.

The next card to learn will be a number x your times table e.g. 1 x 2 =, 2 x 2 =, 3 x 2 = If you get 12 out of 12 correct for 2 weeks you move on. The next card you learn will be division facts about your times table e.g. 2 ÷ 2 =, 4 ÷ 2 =, 6 ÷ 2= If you get 12 out of 12 correct for 2 weeks you move on. The final set will be a mixed set of questions both x and ÷. If you get 12 out of 12 correct for 2 weeks you move on to the next times table!

Sometimes your teacher will ask you to go over your tables more before you move on Sometimes your teacher will move you onto the next table card more quickly
