The 1 st grade Common Core Standards can be found at the Georgia DOE website: Tested subjects are math, reading, grammar/spelling, and writing. Grades: ~ O ~ S ~ N 69 and below ~ U Dictation Example The cat sat on the mat. Participation grades are given in science, social studies, and health. Either an S or N.

 Students take a number of weekly tests:  Reading Comprehension  Math (Quizzes and Tests)  Spelling and Vocabulary  Sight Words  Language Arts  Dictation Sentences (Writing)  Writing Samples Graded papers will be sent home as grades are put into the computer. I try to have these done by the Wednesday after.

Progress Reports go home every 4 weeks.  Gives a summary of student grades  Sample Report Card Sample Report Card Report cards are sent home every 9 weeks.  Show letter grade based on student test averages  Highlight standards in progress or met Conferences can be requested any time throughout the year.

Classwork  Whole group, small group, and individual activities  Incomplete work~ sent home and should be returned completed.  Use check plus, check, or check minus grading system Homework  Reinforces classroom skills  Not "evaluated" but recorded for participation

 Centers are a time for students to move about the room freely  Review concepts learned  Individually and with partners  Small group time with me~ Guided Reading~Groups are leveled for differentiation~ Math small groups  Checked Fridays  Unfinished centers sent home over the weekend

 A seperate program done everyday Covers:  High-frequency words  Phonics and phonemic awareness (letter sounds and letter-sound combinations)  Spelling, alphabetizing, and handwriting  Decoding for fluency  ~~Saxon Survival Guide on Website

 The STAR literacy test is given to every student to determine their reading level.  Students are then assigned a colored book to check out from the library.  Tests are on the computer.  Students must read the book 2 times.  8 points by Holiday Break for pizza party and an additional 12 points for ice cream party at year end.  Students earn beads and charms for their necklaces.

Math Facts in a Flash is an additional program put on by the same company as accelerated reader. Where as you cannot take AR tests at home, you CAN work on math facts. They work their way first through addition and then subtraction. The goal is speed and accuracy. Your child will earn number beads for their necklaces as they master levels in Math Facts in A Flash.

A class schedule is attached to your packet. Connections is on a 8-day rotation. 4 days of PE, 2 days of Music, 1 Art, and 1 days that switches between Art and Guidance Our class is split 4 ways. Connections calendar has been sent home. New one available upon request.
