Canada’s Physical Geography

In this unit, we will… Learn how landforms are built and shaped on planet earth Be able to explain the 4 ways mountains are formed Be able to explain how landforms are shaped through weathering, erosion, and deposition.

How Our Continents Came to Be… ;) VIDEO

We will learn how landforms are built and shaped on Planet Earth. We will be able to define the 6 terms in our own words and will be able to show it in a picture. Using the textbooks and the internet, find the definitions for the following terms: 1.Continental Drift 2.Pangaea 3.Plate Tectonics 4.Convection Currents 5.Subduction zone 6.Fault line

Term or word: ___________________ Describe: Describe what the term means. Don’t just copy a definition from the dictionary. Instead, try to describe the term as you would to a friend. ________________________________________________________________ Draw: This space is here so you can add anything else that will help you understand the term. You might, for example, draw another picture, use the word in a sentence, write an antonym or synonym, or list other words that come to mind when you think about this term. This space is where you draw what you understand about the term. Drawing pictures is a good way to show what you know, even if you aren’t very good at drawing. In fact, simple pictures sometimes work better than words at conveying meaning. First, you have to write the term, neatly and spelled correctly.

We will be able to explain the 4 ways how mountains are formed. We will create and label 4 diagrams: one for each method of formation. VolcanicDome FoldFault Block

We will be able to explain how landforms are shaped through weathering, erosion, and deposition. We will watch a video and will create a double entry diary to show our understanding. Weathering Erosion Deposition Double Entry Diary IMAGE DEFINITION

Videos Earth: 100 million years from now Alfred Wegner: Great Minds Earth’s Interior & Plate Tectonics

We will be able to identify Canada’s 8 Landform regions. We will be able to indicate where the region is located and give at least one unique feature of the region. Landform Region Where in Canada? One Unique Feature

Climate & Weather

We will be able to define weather and climate and will be able to explain the difference between both. WEATHER Today’s forecast… Sunny… Cloudy periods… CLIMATE Springtime in the Maritimes is cool and foggy… Las Vegas is hot and dry…

We will be able to explain how weather and climate are affected by global factors (latitude, air masses, ocean currents). LatitudeAir MassesOcean Currents How does the tilt of the earth and the sun’s rays affect weather and climate? Air travels over land and water. How do these air masses affect weather and climate? Currents in the ocean are always moving. How do these currents affect weather and climate?

We will be able to explain how weather and climate are affected by regional factors (altitude, bodies of water, mountain barriers). AltitudeBodies of Water Mountain Barriers How does air pressure and altitude affect weather and climate? Does living near large bodies of water affect the weather and climate of that area? How? How can large mountains affect weather patterns and climate?

We will be able to identify the 5 climate regions or zones in the world. We will be able to identify the 4 regions in Canada and where they are located. We will show these regions on a map. What are the 5 climate regions/zones of the world? What climate regions exist in Canada? Label your map.
