Introduction to Nobilo

Overview  History  Vineyards  Wines

History  Founded in 1942 by Nikola Nobilo, a recent émigré from Croatia  Planted first vines in Huapai  Pioneers in the focus on varietal wines from NZ; one of the first to produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in New Zealand

Nobilo Winemaking Team  Our winemaker for over 20 years, Darryl Woolley, is one of the industry’s pioneers of classic NZ Sauvignon Blanc and is renowned for his award-winning wines  Dave Edmonds has made wine in Hawkes Bay, Marlborough and Sonoma County. He became senior winemaker at Nobilo in 2002

New Zealand  Never more than 75 miles from the ocean  Spans the same amount of latitude as Alsace to Sicily  Long hours of sunshine helps grapes ripen fully  2 key growing areas for Nobilo are Hawkes Bay and Marlborough Marlborough Region Hawkes Bay Region

North Island  Hawkes Bay is one of the oldest wine growing regions in New Zealand  20% of grapevines are planted in Hawkes Bay  Merlot and Chardonnay are sourced from locations throughout Hawkes Bay and Gisborne  Gisborne is commonly referred to as the Chardonnay Capital of New Zealand. Hawkes Bay Gisborne

Marlborough  Marlborough’s varied geography creates many flavor and aroma characteristics in Sauvignon Blanc  Gravelly soils in Rarangi give a tropical fruit flavor  Southern Awatere Valley produces a certain minerality due to the winds  Nobilo also produces Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling

Regional Collection  The crisp, zesty Sauvignon Blanc has the distinctive Marlborough aromas of tropical and citrus fruits  The Pinot Gris is an off dry style and displays flavors of pear, honeysuckle and melon.  The Chardonnay has stone fruit character with aromas of butterscotch and oak and a soft, creamy texture  The Merlot is rich and full bodied with a nose of ripe blackberry and plum with a full, soft palate

Icon  The Icon series focuses on specific vineyards sites and winemaking practices  The Sauvignon Blanc exhibits pineapple and passion fruit and fresh herbal aromas; Marlborough characters of gooseberry, nettles and passion fruit are very evident  The Pinot Noir has bouquet of black cherries and plums; ripe fruit flavors overlay firm tannins

Summary  Nobilo is the 2nd largest producer of wine in New Zealand and has a 65 year winemaking history.  Nobilo is the #1 super premium brand of Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand.  Nobilo make two tiers of wines, small production Nobilo Icon and the broader release Regional Collection.  Two key wine regions, Marlborough and Hawkes Bay, are showcased in Nobilo wines
